KEVIN NISBET believes he’s getting to grips with the Championship after his initial struggles.
Niggling injuries stopped the Scottish striker, who signed from Hibernian in the summer, from bursting out the blocks for Millwall in the months after his arrival.
But he has now scored three times in the last five games and looks to be finding his feet for a Lions side in need of more goals.
Nisbet, 26, is hopeful that this patch of form is the beginning of him showing his true potential at this level.
Asked how his season is going so far, he told NewsAtDen: “It’s been okay. I think I probably should be on more goals than I am now but it’s picked up in the last few weeks which is good. I’ve been trying to get fit and sharp so hopefully my form can continue.
“I think I’ve got that streak in me. I’ve not scored as many as I wished I had but I’ve had some injuries and stuff and not been fully fit all season but now I’m feeling fully fit and the goals are coming.
“I think I’m probably past that settling in period now. I think I’m settled in London and at the club. It’s obviously been a tricky few months but I think I’m past that now and want to score as many goals as I can.
“I’ve been like that my whole career. I’m quite an instinctive finisher so if I get a couple of chances a game, I back myself to go and put them away.”
It’s Stoke City up next for the Lions, the same side who Nisbet scored against to grab his first Millwall goal.
Joe Edwards’ side are looking to recover after conceding a late goal against Huddersfield to draw 1-1 last week.
Nisbet said: “I looked at the clock and it was something like 95.47 when the penalty was given which is gutting. But I think when you’re going through runs like this, stuff like that happens. So it’s up to us to put that right on Saturday.”
The forward has five goals in total so far and the strike against Sunderland was assisted by a brilliant cross by Arsenal loanee Brooke Norton-Cuffy, who Nisbet is enjoying playing with.
He said: “I’ve been really impressed with him. It’s his second season in the Championship and he’s only 19 as well. I think we’re starting to link-up a lot more which is good and we’re starting to get used to each other’s games which is good going forward.
“I think usually boys at that age are still trying to find their feet in their career but I think Brooke’s well ahead of that. I think you can see with the way he plays the game. His athleticism, his good ability, he’s fit, he’s up and down the line and I think he offers the team a lot. And for a guy who is 19 that’s quite impressive. So hopefully he can keep going.”
