IT remains to be seen whether or not Zian Flemming has scored his first Championship goal for Millwall.
The Dutchman has come incredibly close to finding the back of the net since returning from injury against Norwich City in August, with the current records showing that his tally for the season is still zero.
Against Blackpool, Flemming diverted the ball into the back of the net from a corner, although it’s currently considered to be a Daniel Grimshaw own-goal. However, Millwall boss Gary Rowett believes that the club record signing should be awarded the goal, although he doesn’t think it’ll be long before he’s scoring regularly goals for the Lions regardless.
“I think the referee wrote down Zian as the goalscorer,” Rowett explained.
“Zian said that he scored the goal. I don’t know whether there’s a suggestion that it’s come off the post and hit the ‘keeper. I’ve not seen the goal back.
“I think that, if there’s any doubt, then the striker should get the goal. It’s certainly something we’ll ask about.
“When you see him in training, left foot, right foot, he can bend them in the top corner, he can do what he wants. He’s a real talent, you think at 24 years old, he’s still adjusting to the league and waiting for that little bit of confidence that the first goal brings.
“What you see is that he’s a player that can link play, he’s intelligent, he can head the ball, he’s got a little bit of everything, he’s strong. I thought him, Benik and George Honeyman combined quite well at times in the first half.
“I’ve been pleased with him. He’ll only get better and better and I know he’ll be a fantastic signing for this club because I’ve watched him for many years. I think he’ll be disappointed in himself that he hasn’t scored yet because he’s certainly got the quality to do that.
It’d be nice if he gets that first goal, but if not then I’m sure it won’t be far off.”
