NEITHER side have much relish for this tie but for Millwall it’s a chance to integrate some of the new signings into the set-up and bring up match fitness levels.
Jayson Molumby could make his debut. Millwall have high hopes for the on-loan Brighton midfielder and he showed his class last Friday playing for the under-23s in their 1-1 draw against Burnley at The Den.
Ireland under-21 captain Molumby played for an hour and needs first-team action to get him up to the level of challenging for a place in Neil Harris’ side.
Luke Steels should start in goal, with Jason McCarthy set to replace Mahlon Romeo at right-back. Romeo probably wouldn’t have started anyway but went off injured against the Baggies on Saturday.
Jon Dadi Bodvarsson is favourite to start up front, while Jiri Skalak will also be given a chance following an impressive pre-season.
Under-23s Billy Mitchell and George Alexander, who both made their senior competitive debuts on the final day against Wigan last season, may also come into contention.
Baggies boss Slaven Bilic said he was pleased with his side’s display in Saturday’s 1-1 draw between the sides.
“It was a good game. I don’t want to sound like I’m happy with the result because we want to win our home games,” Bilic said.
“I’m happy with the performance, most of it. We passed the ball well, we created some chances, not lots but against a very well organised team we created enough to score a few goals.
“More than anything we had many opportunities to get that last ball in, but we were either not good enough or not brave enough.
“In the last third you have to take risks, or shoot from outside.
“I like that the atmosphere is like we lost a game in the dressing room. I like that because we want to win our home games, we want to win every game that we can.”
Possible Millwall starting XI: Steele; McCarthy, Hutchinson, Cooper, Ferguson; Skalak, Molumby, Leonard, O’Brien; Bradshaw, Bodvarsson.
