NEIL Harris is hopeful Millwall fans will deliver another booming atmosphere at The Den as the Lions prepare for a big relegation tussle.
Birmingham City come into today’s game just a point behind their hosts and with a game in hand as both teams look to pull away from a congested relegation scrap in the Championship.
Harris took charge of his first home game since returning to Millwall a week ago and watched his side beat Watford 1-0 thanks to an early Zian Flemming goal.
The match saw a rousing atmosphere at The Den as Lions fans welcomed back their club legend. Harris is hoping for more “unity” and “togetherness” at the stadium today.
He said in his pre-match press conference: “The Den is a special place. Against Watford it was excellent and some of the players haven’t experienced that. They hadn’t experienced the excitement levels and togetherness that was in the stadium last week. It was so important.
“Even in the second half when the game was a little stale and the results elsewhere were filtering through with half the teams winning. Even then the fans still galvanised and got behind the boys.
“That’s what we want. We’re not going to stay unbeaten for the next ten games – well I hope we do – and we’re going to have to deal with adversity somewhere along the line. And we need togetherness in that as well.
“We need to make sure the fans carry the players but the players have to carry the fans as well at times. When you get that unity, that’s when it’s a special place and so many times I’ve been so fortunate to be on that pitch or sideline and felt that.
“I just want my players to experience that, I want the fans to experience that and I want them to enjoy watching our team play. I want them to get excited about coming and even if we don’t play well, they will see a Millwall team that has a go and plays with passion. And that’s all I can ask from my group at the moment.”
