Two boys from Southwark have been selected to compete in the prestigious School Games, writes Jessie Kolvin.
Tomas Wylie, 15, (pictured below) and Oliver Wollaston, 16, (pictured above) will form part of the England South East squad in cycling at the event, which is being held at Loughborough University.
Tomas and Oliver are members of the cycling club VC Londres, based at Herne Hill Velodrome, and both attend the Charter School in Dulwich.
Oliver is ranked 93rd in the country in the youth male category, while Tomas is ranked 114th.
The School Games replicates the world’s biggest sporting events, with massive crowds, an opening ceremony and a dedicated Athletes’ Village.
The national event will give the boys a taste of what it’s like to compete at the highest level.
They follow in the footsteps of household names such as Ellie Simmonds, Jonnie Peacock and Katarina Johnson-Thompson, who have all seen international success since their involvement in previous School Games.
The competition takes place from 30th August – 2nd September.
