A Kennington estate is one of the Southwark locations featured in Netflix series ‘The Crown’, which returns for its fifth season today.
Brandon Estate was one of the locations for filming of The Crown’s new season, which returns to Netflix on Wednesday, November 9th. The fifth season is set in the ’90s, during what was a “turbulent time” for the royal family.
Filming, which was managed by FilmFixer, took place across a variety of London boroughs, starting with Southwark.
The Jack Hobbs and the Rachel Leigh community centres, both on Brandon Estate, were featured hosting Prince’s Trust events. The Prince’s Trust charity was founded in 1976 by King Charles to help disadvantaged young people.

In the ’90s, The Trust launched a series of new initiatives including a mentoring schemes for teenagers leaving care and young offenders.
Actor Dominic West who plays Prince Charles in this series was among the cast on set on the Kennington estate.
Tom Lloyd, a member of the Brandon Estate Tenants’ and Residents’ Association said: “We welcome filming when it shows the estate in a positive light.
“Last year we hosted filming for the Sex Pistols biopic. In return for use of the estate, they make a donation to our TRA, which goes back into the community. So it’s a win-win.”
“They were on the estate for five days in total.”
Although filming was on his doorstep, he didn’t catch any of the actors. “When there’s a film crew on your estate there’s such a big crew, that you hardly notice the actors. But the set was elaborate.
“They parked period vehicles all over and transformed the estate into a busy market.”
