Film star and former Old Vic boss Kevin Spacey was given unconditional bail today (Thursday, June 16) after appearing in court on four sexual assault charges.
Sixty-two-year-old Spacey, dressed in a pale blue suit, dark tie and wearing glasses, was seated in the dock. He was not asked to enter a plea for the charges at Westminster Magistrates Court, for crimes all alleged to have taken place while he was artistic director of the Waterloo theatre.
Spacey, who is also charged with a separate count of causing a man to engage in penetrative sexual activity without consent, will next appear at Southwark Crown Court on July 14, to enter a plea. His lawyer said on Thursday that he “strenuously” denies the charges.
The LA Confidential and American Beauty star is charged with two counts of sexual assault in March 2005, sexual assault on a man and causing him to engage in penetrative sexual activity without consent in August 2008 and sexual assault on a man in April 2013.
Spacey worked at the Old Vic between 2003 and 2015. The theatre said they did not comment on ongoing legal proceedings.
