A man has been left with ‘potentially life-changing’ injuries after his car collided with a tree on Great Dover Street yesterday evening.
Emergency services rushed to the scene of the ‘serious’ collision shortly before 8.30pm, which saw the road closed and public transport services re-routed.
The motorist is believed to be in his thirties.
The emergency services had been working to free the man from inside the vehicle at 10pm last night.
In the latest update from police, a spokeswoman said: “Police were called at approximately 20:25hrs on Sunday, 23 June to reports of a car in collision with a tree on Great Dover Street, SE1.
“Officers, the London Fire Brigade, London Ambulance Service and London’s Air Ambulance attended.
“The male driver of the car was taken to hospital with injuries believed to be potentially life changing.”
Police enquiries into the incident are continuing.

The City’s London Fire Brigade department said on social media: “Last night Green watch attended a serious RTC on Great Dover Street along with @LFBIslington and @LFBSouthwark.
“We worked hard with @Ldn_Ambulance and @LDNairamb to release one casualty who was taken to hospital.”
