A top south east London doctor is urging the public to get jabbed amid a rise in Covid-19 infections.
With ONS data showing that nearly 3.5 million people, or one in 18, has the virus – that’s up from 2.7 million Brits had the virus in the last week, Dr Jonty Heaversedge says “it’s never too late” to get vaccinated.
The practising GP and Clinical Lead for South East London Integrated Care Board said: “We are seeing increased levels of COVID-19 infections and hospitalisations in south east London.

“COVID-19 hasn’t gone away, and the best way to protect yourself against serious disease is to get vaccinated. It is crucial to make sure you are up to date with your vaccines, and if you haven’t yet been vaccinated, please come forward to take it up as soon as possible. It’s never too late to get protected.
“Alongside getting vaccinated, people should also continue to follow advice to help reduce the risk of catching the virus and passing it on to others.”
The UK Health Security Agency (UKHSA) is echoing the advice amid concerns over two increasingly prevalent variants of the Omicron strain.

The latest variants – BA.4 and BA.4 – are not thought to be more lethal than previous variants, but appear to be spreading fast.
UKHSA analysis show these variants make up over half of new COVID-19 cases in England.
The NHS recommends people who feel unwell or experiencing respiratory infection symptoms, a high temperature should stay away from others – especially older people.
Londoners can book a COVID-19 vaccine on the NHS website.
