Some of the Dunkirk Little Ships that rescued thousands of WW2 servicemen, plus dozens of other vintage vessels, will be on display at St Katharine Docks next month.
The Classic Boat Festival will see 40 vintage vessels moor up at London’s biggest Marina, from September 9 to 10.
The free festival will host Sir Alec Rose’s Lively Lady, the 100-year-old sailing Thames barge Gladys and other historic ships.
Modern vessels on display include a Met Police Marine Police Unit Targa motorboat and the 20-metre Navy P2000 ship HMS Dasher, which defended Cyprus during the invasion of Iraq.
In a statement, festival organisers said: “Capturing the essence of nautical allure, this exclusive event showcases traditional craftsmanship and historic boats allowing attendees to experience the spectacle of beautifully restored classics right in the heart of the capital.”
There will also be nautical-themed talks and activities, entertainment and workshops for the kids, plus food and drink stalls.
Each day will be marked with a ceremonial opening and closing salute of horns.
St Katharine Docks, next to Tower Bridge, is London’s biggest marina, containing 185 berths.
The Classic Boat Festival will take place on September 9, from 11am to 6pm and Sunday, September 10, from 11am to 5pm. Free entry. For more information please visit https://www.skdocks.co.uk/whats-on/classic-boat-festival
