St Saviour’s and St Olave’s students have been praised for their “remarkable maturity” in achieving “fabulous” GCSE results, despite the disruption caused by the Covid-19 pandemic.
Catherine May, headteacher of the New Kent Road girl’s school, said: “The quality of the work these students have produced over a sustained period of time, and in the most challenging of circumstances has been justly rewarded with these exceptional outcomes. I am proud of them all and I look forward to all they will undoubtedly achieve in the sixth form. I congratulate the students and I thank their families for the support and the staff for their commitment that has contributed to this outstanding success.”
Deputy headteacher Michelle Ferguson, who led the process of training staff on how to assess pupils this year, said: “Our students are amazing. They demonstrated remarkable maturity during this process and staff acted with absolute integrity. We are grateful to our staff and immensely proud of our wonderful students and their incredibly supportive families.”
Stephanie Delvaille, director of Year 11, said: “Our students have done phenomenally! Despite the immense uncertainty caused by exam cancelations, they have shown resilience, unwavering hard work and dedication to achieve these much-deserved outcomes. I am grateful to the staff that reimagined teaching during the pandemic to ensure that our students were not disadvantaged. I am very proud of Year 11 and I know that they will continue to apply their incredible work ethic in the next stage of their academic careers, which I am confident will be just as fruitful.”
