A historic ship in Bankside is offering the chance to ‘pay what you like’ to jump on board throughout January.
The Golden Hinde is a full-size reconstruction of the famous Elizabethan galleon, captained by the famous navigator Sir Francis Drake.
Located next door to Borough Market, the ship and its current ‘crew’ tell the fascinating history of the first English circumnavigation of the world and what it was like to live and sail aboard.
The prices to visit the boat are normally £6 each – but in January they can be whatever you like.
Manager of The Golden Hinde, Gary Lockley, said: “After the festive period is over, many people get the January blues and money can be tight.
“By offering ‘Pay What You Want’ we hope to encourage people who might not normally visit us to step aboard.
“The story of The Golden Hinde is exciting and thought-provoking, and we want to share this with as many people as possible.”
Visitors can either book tickets via The Golden Hinde’s website or just turn up on the day.
Where? St Mary Overie Dock, Cathedral Street, SE1 9DE
The offer runs from Monday 8 January to Wednesday 31 January.
