A man was arrested last night for carrying a folding serrated edge pocket knife tucked into his sock in Peckham.
The Territorial Support Group, a Met Operations unit of London’s Metropolitan Police which specialises in public order policing and other areas, stopped the man in his vehicle.
Police say they also found a suspected stolen disabled parking badge and nearly £1,000 in the man’s vehicle.
As a result, the man was arrested for possession of an offensive weapon, having no insurance, handling stolen goods and an offence under the Proceeds of Crime Act 2002.
The stop and search was conducted under section 1 of the Police and Criminal Evidence Act. This act allows the police to stop and search a person or vehicle if they have reasonable grounds to suspect they will find prohibited items such as offensive weapons and stolen materials.
At 10:52 last night, the Met Police Taskforce tweeted: “TSG U414 stopped a Male driving in Peckham in @MPSSouthwark. He was searched under sec 1 PACE.
“This Knife was found in his sock, a suspected stolen disabled parking badge & almost £1000 in vehicle. Arrested for Possession Offensive Weapon, No insurance, HSG and POCA.”
