A man died this morning (Sunday February 12) after being rescued from a flat fire near Elephant & Castle
Five fire engines and around 35 firefighters were called to the fire in a ground floor flat, on Brook Drive, between Kennington and Elephant & Castle, at 9:52am this morning.
Firefighters wearing breathing apparatus rescued the man from the fire, but sadly he died at the scene.

A woman from a neighbouring flat was also rescued by firefighters. She was suffering from smoke inhalation and taken to hospital by ambulance.
The fire was under control by 11:27am.
Fire crews from Old Kent Road, Dockhead, Richmond and Lambeth attended the scene.
The cause of the fire is being investigated by the brigade’s Fire Investigation Team and the police.
