Burgeoning bookworms are invited to a week-long children’s literature festival in Herne Hill.
The Stepping Into Stories Kids’ Literature Festival, featuring a story-telling competition and talks from best-selling authors, is from January 30 to February 4, 2024.
Award-winning author, A. M. Dassu, who attended the 2023 festival, said: “The festival was so well organised and a real pleasure to be a part of.
“It’s such an important festival and one I’m sure makes a huge difference to the community.”
The bulk of the festival will take place at Station Hall, Herne Hill, but there are also events at 198 Contemporary Arts And Learning, Brixton, and online.
Renowned authors, including Jeffrey Boakye (Kofi & The Rap Battle Summer) and Nicola Davies (Choose Love), will give talks throughout the week.
For adults, there will be evening panels where figurehead speakers explore the importance of positive representations of disability in children’s literature.
Organisers have also set up a story competition, with children telling their home-spins tales around the theme of ‘Rooted Deep, Branching Far’.
Entrants can use any format to recount their tales, including comic strips, rap, poetry, performance and songs.
