A man has been arrested after a spate of alleged sexual assaults against women in the Camberwell and Ruskin Park areas yesterday.
Throughout Tuesday, July 5 police received eight reports of a man harassing and assaulting women in the area.
The first incident was reported in the morning and as more calls came in, police say they “quickly linked the incidents” and implemented an “extensive policing plan”.
This involved deploying more uniformed officers and detectives to the area, speaking to victims and witnesses and checking CCTV.
A suspect was identified later that evening and arrested on suspicion of sexual assault. He remains in custody.
Supt Dan Ivey, Central South Command Unit, said: “We’re aware of posts on social media and fully recognise the considerable concern these incidents have caused among the community.
“We share that concern and are actively investigating with a dedicated team of detectives. A man remains in police custody. Any women who have not yet reported any potential incidents to police are encouraged to do so by calling 101, quoting CAD reference 6958/July.”
