Police are appealing for witnesses and information after five men, all in their 20s, self-presented at two south London hospitals with gunshot and knife wounds.
Police were called at 3.30am this morning (Saturday, June 18). One of the victims, aged 20, is in a life-threatening condition.
More homicides in Southwark over past five years than anywhere else in London
Police believe their injuries were sustained during a disturbance near Wandsworth Road, SW8, during which a shotgun was fired, in the early hours of Saturday morning.
Detective Sergeant Matt Doohan, leading the investigation, said: “The investigation into this offence, and what took place, is in its early stages. This incident has occurred in the very early hours of Saturday morning when members of the public were likely to have been asleep.
“However, we need the support and help of our communities to bring those individuals who are willing to endanger others by using firearms and knives on the streets of London to justice and to help us in preventing further people from being injured in similar circumstances.”
“If you do not wish to speak with police, and to stay completely anonymous, please contact the charity Crimestoppers.”
Trident detectives from the Specialist Crime Command are heading up the investigation in close collaboration with the Central South Command Unit.
There have been no arrests and enquiries continue.
Anyone with information is asked to call police via 101 quoting reference CAD 1192/16Jun.
