With the new Immigration changes announced by the new Home Secretary, James Cleverly, this is to curb immigration figures to the UK. Applying for a family visas as well as the skilled worker visas is a growing concern.
• Also, with the Supreme Court’s decisionled to the Home Secretary making changes to the Rwanda migration plan, which later led to signing the agreement.
The Office of National Statistics reported the Year Ending 672,000 till June 2023, which has been slightly higher from the previous year of 607,000 (ending June 2022). On this note, UK Immigration has remained a hot topic especially since Brexit.
Labour trying to oppose, or they are trying to win votes?
- We heard the opposition, Yvette Cooper, the now Shadow Home Secretary, mentioning that the UK Government is showing proof of having no plan, neither a skill growth for British national taking over positions.
- We do concur with this aspect, as the Government does need to have a plan of action on skill development, rather than just rash decisions and not
- knowing consequences.

Immigration changes for 4th April 2024
Since the announcement on Monday (4th of December 2023), this has now led to Settled and British nationals’ resident in the UK, with the prospective of a huge wage increase from £18,600 to £38,700, many families will go through a difficult spell especially with the decision on whether to remain in the UK or relocate overseas.
- The wage increase is a criterion the sponsor (British/Settled partner) needs to meet before an application can be made.
- The average salary claim by the UK Gov is not accurate and well below the market rate.
Family visas
At ICS Legal, our Lawyers have been advising clients and families over the last few days on planning to make an application either prior to the changes or to prepare for the changes coming in to force from 4th April 2024, subject to any changes.
There will be legal challenges against those new statement of changes, we hope to be part of this, as the entire intent to change is simply wrong. More details will be posted into our blog https://icslegal.com/blog.
- We are confident that this change should not affect existing partner visa holders in the UK.
Note the increase in fees announced from October 2023, as well as the planned Immigration Health Surcharge increase will impact families applying for their dependent partner and children.
Whilst we acknowledge there is a requirement on migration control, at ICS Legal, we believe this should exempt families who are resident in the UK, where partners are British or Settled here.
Our recommendation is for all our readers where you feel, you or a family member will be impacted, reach out to our office on 0207 237 3388 and get advice on the matter. It is important to have a plan of action in place, ensuring any prospective issues are adhered to.
