An avant-garde artist who has performed for Prince Charles, Princess Diana, Tony Blair and Margaret Thatcher is doing a special performance in Elephant and Castle this Thursday.
Holly Penfield, an avant-garde artist who lives in North London, will be performing at the Temple of Art and Music (TAM) in Elephant and Castle to relaunch her album, ‘Tree Woman’ that she first released in 2020.
On Thursday December 8th, she will be taking to the stage in a special show at TAM: a social enterprise that provides an alternative to Spotify for musicians to earn a living whilst building and reaching new audiences.
The venue is committed to nurturing new artists while relaunching those who don’t get the exposure they deserve. The proceeds from tickets and drinks will also go to supporting the musicians.
“TAM is an incredible place – I would say it’s the best venue in all of London now,” Holly said. “Especially the nine-foot concert grand piano.”
Holly, now in her 60s, has been part of the music scene for over 25 years and she’s come close to many a famous face over the years. “When I was in a jazz band I performed for Prince Charles and Princess Diana at a film festival, Tony Blair in an elevator and Margaret Thatcher at Stringfellows” – the famous strip-club in West London.
“Now, there is very little of the music industry left,” she explained.
“Artists and record-label owners are trying to figure out how to make money with all this new free access to music. Everything is being reinvented and explored.”
She explained this is one of the ways in which they are doing it – by allowing artists to relaunch their albums as a non-fungible token (NFT), which means that it cannot be replaced or exchanged for something of identical value.
“Allowing people to buy an album as an NFT is another way for artists to have ownership over their music and get paid directly.”
The album combines rock and roll, jazz and pop. She added that punters can expect it to be a really lively gig: “I’ve got a full rock-band behind me.”
“Anyone who comes will be taken on a beautiful, emotional rollercoaster.”
She will be on from 7:30pm-10pm on Thursday December 8th at the Temple of Art and Music, Elephant and Castle, 42 Newington Causeway, SE1 6DR – located inside Mercato Metropolitano.
Tickets are £6 on the door or book online HERE.
People can buy her album at the gig for £10.
