GARY Rowett has confirmed that Ryan Leonard is a doubt to face Sunderland this weekend as he continues to recover from his torn hamstring.
The versatile midfielder picked up the injury in training towards the end of August and has yet to play a single minute for the Lions since. The manager told NewsAtDen that he was available to face Preston North End before the World Cup break but was unlikely to be risked after suffering a setback.
Rowett added that he would likely be brought in for one of the club’s two friendly matches before Saturday’s trip to the Stadium of Light, although he wasn’t even named on the bench for Millwall’s 1-1 draw against Brondby over the weekend.
When asked whether Leonard would be fit to face the Black Cats, Rowett said: “I’m not sure”.
“He didn’t quite make enough progress.,” he added. “Again, we have to take our time with these types of injuries.
“I’m hopeful, but we’ll see.”
With Shaun Hutchinson returning from injury in Millwall’s match against the former Danish champions, Benik Afobe [knee] is the only other concern heading into Saturday’s match on Wearside.
