MILLWALL’S January transfer activity could be shaped by the future of Shane Ferguson and whether or not he extends his loan deal or signs permanently from Newcastle.
The winger’s current temporary deal is due to conclude after this Saturday’s clash at Oldham, and Neil Harris wants to hold on to him until at least the end of the season.
If Newcastle decide to retain the Northern Ireland international, or if he moves elsewhere, then Millwall will be in the market for a left-sided attacking player. They would also like to sign another back-up striker.
Harris said this week the club are still waiting for Newcastle’s decision.
The Lions boss explained: “We’re not sure what the situation is going to be with Shane until Newcastle give some feedback, which we’re waiting for.
“Attacking-wise we’re also looking at adding somebody.
“Fergie’s really enjoyed his time here and enjoyed playing regularly. He’s had limited opportunities over the last few years and has probably got better while he’s been with us.
“He’s certainly one we’d like to extend and keep with us for as long as possible. He’s made a really good impression and is at a good age, he’s a young man with a huge hunger to play regularly.
“He’s missed a lot of football over the last few years through injury and lack of opportunity. He’s one we’re certainly pushing hard for.
“Again, that’ll be down to Newcastle to see what they want to do. I really like Fergie, he gives us really good balance with his left foot.”
Ferguson, 24, has played 24 times for Millwall since joining in August and has scored two goals.
