SHANE Ferguson is set to be suspended for three of Millwall’s nine games in their relegation run-in.
Ferguson was sent off in the last minute of extra-time in Millwall’s 5-4 penalty-shootout FA Cup quarter-final defeat to Brighton for a stamp on Lewis Dunk.
Northern Ireland international Ferguson would have taken one of Millwall’s penalties in the spot-kick decider, but instead Mahlon Romeo was the only defender in Millwall’s first five attempts from 12 yards and he missed before Dunk scored and Jake Cooper fired over in sudden death to send the Seagulls through.
Millwall are unlikely to appeal, meaning Fergsuon, 27, is set to miss Championship games against Leeds United, West Brom and London rivals Queens Park Rangers for violent conduct.
Millwall boss Neil Harris said: “Shane Ferguson would have certainly taken a penalty because he is technically our best player. At the time I could not really see, the fourth official said it was a stamp and if that’s the case then there is no place for that on my football pitch. He will be punished severely.”
