The Shard was lit up with the England flag last night to cheer on the Lionesses who face Germany in the UEFA Women’s Euro 2022 final.
Lights were automated to switch on at sunset and reached full brightness by 9pm on Saturday, July 30.
England vs Germany kicks off today (Sunday, July 31) at 5pm at Wembley Stadium and will be played in front of roughly 90,000 fans.
The Lionesses have stormed to this year’s final, scoring twenty goals, conceding just one and winning every single game.
But they face a stiff test in Germany, the most successful women’s team in the history of the tournament.
This month, Bermondsey’s Kirby Estate unveiled a mural dedicated to their namesake – England and Chelsea forward Fran Kirby.
The tournament has been widely hailed as a success, drawing some of the biggest crowds and TV audiences the women’s game has ever seen.
