Two sheds in Peckham caught fire yesterday, (Tuesday 26 July) with 25 firefighters tackling the ensuing blaze for over an hour.
Four fire engines were called just after 3pm to the incident on Elcot Avenue. The fire was under control by 4.26pm.
Firefighters also had to cool a 50kg propane cylinder to ambient temperature for fear it might be explode. A 25m cordon was installed as a precaution.
Two sheds at the rear of properties were destroyed, while another two were damaged. Six people in surrounding buildings were evacuated.
Fire crews were depolyed from the Old Kent Road, Peckham, New Cross and Dockhead fire stations as controllers received twelve calls about the blaze.
There were no reports of any injuries. The fire’s cause is under investigation.
