Docklands under-7s hope to become the second Bermondsey side to bring a trophy back to the area this summer after Bruin JFC’s success in the Selkent Trophy.
Docklands play the final of the Selkent One Vase this Sunday after reaching the decider in their first official season.
The B division team were handed a daunting challenge after being drawn against two A sides in the group phase.
After their 2-2 draw with Welling United Wings was followed by the latter’s 3-2 win against Samuel Montagu FC, it meant Docklands had to win by two goals in their second game.
They were halfway there against Samuel Montagu FC at the break when they went in 1-0 in front.
It looked like a valiant second-half defensive display from their opponents would deny Docklands, until the introduction of winger Dara Sanni.
The left-footer rattled the bar with just three minutes left, but he wasn’t going to be denied as with just 30 seconds remaining on the clock he found the top corner to send Docklands into the finals.
Coach Tommy McCloud said: “All of the boys battled tremendously well to secure their position in the final, and they now hope they can bring the Vase back to Bermondsey.”
Docklands will face Parkwood Rangers All Stars and Dulwich Village Black at London Marathon Playing Fields (London SE18 4L) this Sunday. The action kicks off at 1pm.
