A man was rescued from a Bermondsey fire yesterday, thought to have been caused by a hob being accidentally switched on.
The man was treated at the scene of the maisonette fire in Amina Way by paramedics and rushed to hospital for smoke inhalation.
Six others had left the building when the firefighters were called at around 1.30pm.
The blaze was dealt with by firefighters wearing specialist breathing equipment to combat smoke, and was over in just over an hour.
Part of the kitchen of the property was destroyed in the blaze. Three fire engines and around 15 firefighters attended the call.
The London Fire Brigade today warned of the dangers of leaving hobs unattended.
Tips for kitchen safety given by firefighters in the wake of the incident include having a heat detector installed and keeping ovens and grills clean to avoid built up grease igniting.
