GARY Rowett predicts Matija Sarkic will get “better and better” as he praised the goalkeeper after his huge save against Stoke City.
Millwall dominated the first half on Saturday and took the lead in the Championship clash thanks to a brilliant finish by Kevin Nisbet.
But the game became increasingly tense as Stoke grew into the match before eventually throwing everything at Millwall.
Sarkic had to pull off a brilliant save in stoppage time to deny Andre Vidigal’s curling effort from the edge of the box.
Rowett says stops like that are why Millwall went all out to land the keeper from Wolverhampton Wanderers this summer.
He told NewsAtDen: “That’s why we brought him in. We felt as though he could make those types of saves. There’s always games where if your goalie pulls off something like that, it can essentially get you the three points or be a large part of getting you the three points.
“For me, he’s got that capability, I think he’ll get better and better. He’s a young goalkeeper who hasn’t played that much football recently.
“He came into our team very quickly on the back of two days training and I think the more comfortable he gets with the defenders, the more comfortable he gets with the team, the better he’ll become. But he’s certainly made a very good start.”
