A Blackfriars-based school, where boys are educated in nautical and maritime studies as part of their curriculum, celebrated the Coronation with a special parade.
The London Nautical School is a comprehensive school with a Naval ethos – its aim is to train young men from inner-city London to fulfil their potential, often in maritime pursuits.
The school was first established in 1915 in response to the disaster of the Titanic – following the official government inquiry.
To this day, boys aged 11-18 continue to be educated in nautical and maritime studies as part of their everyday curriculum.
Part of this is doing a weekly parade, but this time they dedicated it to the crowning of King Charles III.
Upon his crowning, he became the Commander-in-Chief of the Armed Forces – which includes the Royal Navy.
The boys followed naval drill to a parade band playing “A Life on the Ocean Wave”- a regimental march of His Majesty’s Royal Marines – keeping their discipline at all times and saluting the flag to the national anthem. It ended with a cheer to God Save The King.
Richard Garcia, Head of Year 7 at the school commented: “To see young lads living this historic occasion was a magnificent example.
“For us, it was special to mark our weekly parade by trooping our colours in honour of His Majesty’s coronation.”
