Detectives leading a murder investigation after Bermondsey man Kai McGinley was shot in Erith have made five further arrests including that of a 16-year-old girl on suspicion of assisting an offender.
This brings the arrest tally to seven after two men aged eighteen and twenty were arrested earlier this week on suspicion of murder. And police are still appealing for information.
Police said 24-year-old Kai from Bermondsey, an aspiring rapper, was shot by ‘balaclava-clad’ attackers following a car chase in Erith on Thursday February 9.
Witnesses have said that Kai was in a white Mini Clubman when he was rammed and surrounded by a masked gang on Pembroke Road, at around 8.50pm.
He is believed to have made it 15 metres to a nearby driveway on Hillside, but despite paramedics and police being on the scene within minutes he was unable to be saved.
Detective Chief Inspector Chris Wood, who is leading the investigation, said: “I continue to urge anyone who has information regarding Kai’s murder, or the events of that night to come forward and speak with us.
“We have made a number of arrests but our investigation continues. Anything you know could prove vital in us securing the evidence to convict those responsible.”
On Thursday, 9 into Friday, 10 March, homicide detectives supported by specialist officers from across the Met carried out a number of warrants and arrested five people.
A 16-year-old girl was arrested on suspicion of assisting an offender and a 53-year-old man was arrested on suspicion of conspiracy to murder.
Three males aged 33, 17 and 20 years-old were arrested on suspicion of murder and attempted murder.
All five remain in custody.
