Fisher braved the bracing cold and a 2-0 deficit to recover to claim a draw against promotion-chasing Rusthall last weekend.
Both sides seemed surprised the game went ahead, with parts of the pitch in Tunbridge Wells frozen. But the referee gave the go-ahead after an 11am inspection.
Players understandably struggled on the surface and there were no real clear-cut chances in the opening half an hour.
Then on 32 minutes, Atta Gyedu lost possession trying to play out from the back and in attempting to retrieve the situation gave away a penalty which was despatched by former Fish player Louie Clarke.
Fisher found themselves 2-0 behind just five minutes later. Justice Owusu saved Clarke’s effort but the rebound fell to Dwan Archer who fired home.
Fisher boss Ajay Ashanike introduced Darnelle Bailey-King at the break and the visitors almost halved the deficit on the hour-mark when Isaac Thompson’s cross caught out former Fisher stopper Tommy Taylor who was relieved to see the ball clip the post.
Fisher, and Thompson, didn’t have long to wait for their next chance after Jacob Katonia was fouled in the box and Thompson struck home the penalty with 63 minutes gone.
The Fish were almost level when Luke With’s header found Katonia but Taylor saved brilliantly. Both players required treatment after the collision, with Katonia forced off.
Fisher finally got the equaliser they deserved with three minutes left as Eni Amgbaduba won a header and With found the net with a low shot that bobbled along a surface which had started to freeze again on a brutally cold evening.
Ashanike’s side then had to defend heroically late on with Darnell Bromfield making a vital block and Owusu producing a brilliant double-save to the delight of the away contingent in the 135 crowd.
The point lifted Fisher up to eighteenth in the 20-team SCEFL Premier Division table.
The Fish are back at St Paul’s this Saturday when they host eighth-place Phoenix Sports. Kick-off in Rotherhithe is at 3pm.
