Stansfeld up to second spot

Stansfeld capped a fine week by defeating Bexley 1-0 in a Kent County Premier League contest that moved them up to second place in the table.

The victory came on the back of the previous weekend’s victory in the Kent Reliance Intermediate Challenge Shield Final, although the standard of play in the Bexley win, in difficult conditions, bared little comparison.

In a game of few chances Billy Jolley netted the winner from the penalty spot four minutes from time, just five minutes after Bexley missed a spot kick of their own.

Stansfeld manager Lloyd Bradley said: “After the euphoria off last week’s cup final triumph, this really was a reality check for myself and the players.

“But I was well pleased with the boy’s attitude and application.

I spoke before the game about that and again at half time, about just getting a scruffy 1-0 win and scruffy it certainly was. “The fact that the result took us up into second place in the table, after Erith 147 slipped up, made it all the more satisfying. Bexley have been on a good run of form of late, so this was a very good result for us.”

Stansfeld reserves remain top of their league despite throwing away a two goal lead to draw 2-2 at home to Chipstead. Mark McKenna and Harry Sewell got the Stansfeld goals.
