Giant-killers reach last eight

DULWICH HAMLET produced a sensational performance to knock Braintree Town out of the FA Buildbase Trophy on Tuesday night.

After the sides drew 0-0 at Braintree on Saturday, Ashley Carew put Hamlet ahead in the 28th minute when he finished from the spot after Gavin Tomlin had been fouled. National League Braintree, who included Millwall’s Kris Twardek in their starting XI, rallied and Jerome Okimo levelled seven minutes before the break.

The home side, seeking to reach the quarter-finals of the competition for the first time since 1980, delighted the majority of the 860 fans at Champion Hill with their positivity against a team two divisions above them. And they were rewarded five minutes into the second half when Manny Parry put through his own net.

Eleven minutes later Hamlet had a two-goal cushion as Tomlin made it 3-1, before Sanchez Ming added a fourth in the 78th minute.

Parry had more luck at the other end of the pitch as he reduced the deficit with ten minutes left, but Jacob Erskine struck in injury-time as Gavin Rose’s side comfortably advanced.

DOCKLANDS U15S defeated Lewisham Youth 5-2 at the weekend. Charlie Hull put Docks in front before Teddy O’Rourke made it two. Josh Hyam, Bobby Ryan and Teddy Belcher completed the rout for the Rotherhithe/Bermondsey outfit.

The U7s won their first game against Blackheath 1-0, but lost 7-2 in the second.
