Fish to fight all the way for survival

FISHER BOSS Dean Harrison said his side’s 2-0 victory over Lordswood last Saturday was “huge” as they “fight to the death” to beat the drop.

Alvardo Casado Munoz scored after 25 minutes and Richie Hamill’s penalty just before half-time was enough to give the Bermondsey side three crucial points as they fight to avoid relegation from the Southern Counties East Football League Premier Division.

Fisher simply couldn’t afford to slip up against a side that was four points ahead of them in the table before kick-off. “It’s huge, we needed it,” Harrison told the Kentish Football website.

“If Lordswood had beaten us they’d have gone seven clear of us so now we’re a point behind and it drags them back into the battle. It was a massive win. “Beckenham got a good result so fair play to them.

There’s three or four sides in there so it will be a fight to the death, I think. “[We showed] great character. We trained well this week, we trained really well on Thursday. I looked at how we were going to play and that worked in the first half.

“Second half I didn’t think we did it well enough. I think we played as individuals in the second half, not as a team and we let ourselves down a little bit. But first half we took Thursday’s training into the game and it was good.

The boys have been great, the spirit in there is great.” Fisher were also indebted to goalkeeper Nic Taylor after he produced some crucial saves. “He did well,” Harison said. “He made a couple early on, Nic.

He’s been a good signing. He was sharp, he was sharp in training on Thursday. They had a good session, the keepers, and he looked at it, he was up for it.” That result left Fisher just two points behind Erith & Belvedere, who are in fourth-last place in the table. However, Fisher couldn’t build on their positive performance from the weekend, as they went down 2-0 to Tunbridge Wells on Tuesday night.
