Bradley delight as Stansfeld bag silverware

Stansfeld manager Lloyd Bradley has expressed his satisfaction with his sides’ campaign after they finished the season off in style by picking up the Bill Manklow Inter-Regional Cup.

To top that the Southwark side also secured second place in the Kent County Premier League in spite of the fact they were required to play three games in the space of five days. Bradley told the News: “It has been such a brilliant week and a great end to the season. I certainly would have taken League runners-up and to win a cup at the start of the season.” The Bermondsey club started their hectic end to the season last Tuesday with a cup final encounter against Farnborough OB Guild.

The night ended with a 2-0 win for the Southwark side with Sam Ryan scoring early on after latching on to a fine through ball from Michael Smith. Smith was once again instrumental in the second goal of the night when his corner was met by Tony Dakin, whose header effectively killed off the tie as a contest.

The Southwark side did not have much time to celebrate their victory as just two days later they took on Guru Nanak, in a game that would be crucial to decide who would take second spot in the table. Despite their cup exertions Stansfeld once again managed to secure a 2-0 win, with Billy Jolley netting twice to secure the points. Last Saturday Stansfeld completed their campaign against Metrogas, who had already been crowned league champions, and they fell to a 3-0 defeat.

Bradley added: “Unfortunately it was one game too many for the boys. It’s a lot to ask and we could have done with playing lesser opposition for the final game when you play so many games so quickly. “But I don’t really want to dwell on that as we had a great season which we finished off in a fantastic manner in that last week.”
