Lionesses set to raid Bees Hive

BILLIE BROOKS and Ella Rutherford believe Millwall Lionesses’ recent break from competitive action came at an opportune time to work on areas they need to improve.

The Lionesses face an intense period of three games in nine days as they return to action for the first time since October 12 this weekend. Lee Burch’s side will be protecting a ten-game unbeaten league run when they travel to The Hive Stadium in north London to take on London Bees on Saturday.

They then face two FA WSL Continental Tyres Cup fixtures, against Arsenal at St Paul’s next Wednesday and Bees away again on Sunday week. Millwall have played friendly fixtures since their 1-0 loss in the cup to Watford, and Brooks explained that was a chance to work on areas of weakness in their game.

“They’re always important, it’s game time, it’s getting to work on things that didn’t go so well in the last game that we’re looking to improve and prepare us for London Bees, Arsenal and London Bees again,” Brooks said. “We had a weekend off to relax and now we’re back in for the hard work and look ahead to three big games in nine days.”

Ella Rutherford also thinks the break came at the right time, after their form picked up following time to work on the training pitch after a 5-0 SSE Women’s FA Cup defeat to Bristol last March. Rutherford said: “Back when we played Bristol we had a weekend off then and that really did us the world of good, because we then went on our eight-game unbeaten run.”
