Chris Kongo extends winning professional run

BERMONDSEY’S CHRIS Kongo delivered a destructive performance to move to 9-0 in his professional career with a devastating 74-second knockout last weekend.

‘2Slick’ wasn’t getting carried away, though, calling his performance at York Hall “okay”. He defeated his Lithuanian opponent Arvydas Trizno inside a round in their super-welterweight contest.

Kongo recently changed trainers, learning now under the tutelage of Jim MacDonald.

“There’s been a big difference,” Kongo said. “As everyone knows, Jim is really on it on the fitness side of it. I was surprised in terms of his technical side, it was very similar to a lot of coaches I‘ve worked with.

“He took James DeGale to a world title so he’s got the experience.

“One hundred per cent I want a title. By the end of the year I should have a Southern Area or an English or inter-continental title. We want to go for one of them and we will get something by the end of the year.

“It was an okay performance, the main thing for me was to go out there and work on my jab. From watching his fights, he was vulnerable around the side.

“I saw an opportunity and took it and it ended quite early – but I wasn’t surprised.”
