Big Cheese heading to Millwall’s Den for Aston Villa clash to help pal Charlie Wynn

By John Kelly

TED CHEESEMAN once sparred with Charlie Wynn on Christmas Day – now he’s doing his bit to help out his former Fisher club-mate.

Bermondsey’s Wynn, 29, suffered a bleed to the brain during sparring in March and had to have life-saving surgery, with his family setting up a fund to raise money for his rehabilitation.

Cheeseman, like Wynn a lifelong Millwall fan, announced this week that he will be at The Den before the Lions’ Championship fixture against Aston Villa on Saturday when he will be selling tickets to his next bout, with commission from all tickets sold on the day to be donated to Wynn’s fund.

Cheeseman, 23, with a professional record of 14-0, fights Reading’s Asinia Byfield for the British welterweight title at the Copper Box Arena in Queen Elizabeth Olympic Park on October 27.

“Charlie Wynn and me sparred loads and loads of rounds when we were at Fisher. One year (2013) we sparred on Christmas Day,” Cheeseman told the News this week.

“I’m really gutted for him. I don’t know too much about it, I didn’t want to get involved as I don’t want it to get in my head. I need to focus on my fight.”

Cheeseman will be selling tickets priced at £40, £60, £80, £100 and £200 (VIP) and added, “as one of our own we want to give him all the help we can.

Cheeseman also later posted on social media: “I ain’t had much involvement with Charlie Wynn since he had his accident.

“I didn’t want to see him that way or hear too much of how he was as I didn’t want it to put me off the sport.

“But I hear he’s getting better and he’s been in my head the whole time as an old Fisher club-mate and actual friend, and anything I could do for him and his family I would…so to everyone who wants to help with a good cause get down their Saturday and get your tickets off me.”
