Five south London Wetherspoon pubs have been shortlisted for ‘Loo of the Year’ awards for giving punters ‘home away from home’ bathroom experiences, writes Susie Kellie…
Fox on the Hill in Denmark Hill, the Kentish Drovers in Peckham, Surrey Docks in Rotherhithe, the Brockley Barge in Brockley and the Gate Clock in Greenwich have been acclaimed in the annual ‘Loo of the Year’ awards with coveted ‘platinum’ ratings.
Unannounced inspectors visited each pub and measured the condition of each bathroom’s decor, accessibility, cleanliness and maintenance. Platinum ratings are only given to the most exceptional winners.
The Loo of the Year Awards 2018 managing director, Mike Bone, said: “The toilets at the five pubs have been designed and fitted out to a very high standard and are both clean and well maintained.
“The pubs richly deserve their platinum awards – the highest individual award the judges can deliver.”
Iwona Lee, manager of the Fox on the Hill, in Denmark Hill, said: “We are delighted with the award.
“Staff at the pub ensure the toilets are in first class condition and its great to have been recognised by inspectors.”
The British Toilet Association launched its first ‘loo of the year’ award in 1987 in a bid to encourage businesses make bathrooms feel like a ‘home away home’ experience for its users.
The final winners will be announced at a ceremony next month.
The ‘Loo of the Year’ 2018 awards take on December 7th 2018 at the St Johns Hotel in Solihull.
