Car mysteriously ablaze on residential Rotherhithe street

Firefighters rushed to put out a car on fire in Rotherhithe on Wednesday evening after twenty locals called in.

Footage of the scene, near Alfred Salter Primary on Roberts Close, shows firefighters attempting to douse the blaze.

The fire was put out within twenty minutes of the fire engine arriving. No one was hurt.

A spokesperson for the fire brigade said: “Firefighters were called to a car alight on Roberts Close in Rotherhithe on Wednesday evening.

“The Brigade’s 999 Control Officers took 20 calls to the blaze. There were no reports of any injuries.

“The Brigade was called at 2333 and the fire was under control by 2350. One fire engine from Deptford Fire Station attended.”

There is no explanation for why the car was on fire. Police said they were not investigating.
