Update: Transport Police investigating ‘teenagers’ on tracks near Denmark Hill

British Transport Police officers are appealing for witnesses who saw ‘two teenage boys’ walking along train tracks near Denmark Hill station during Tuesday’s evening rush hour to come forward.

Passenger Owen Hayward, who was travelling on a London Overground train approaching the station from Clapham told the News he saw the youths from his window at about 6pm.

He said: “They had the gall to trek up alongside, as the train slammed the brakes on, and even hang over the bridge.”

The incident comes almost two months to the day after three graffiti artists were fatally struck by a train at nearby Loughborough Junction.

Mr Haywood photographed the trespassers, who appear to have been two young men.

A British Transport Police spokesperson confirmed: “Officers were called to Denmark Hill station, London, at 6pm yesterday after reports of youths on the tracks.

“Officers attended and are making enquiries into this incident.

“It is believed that two teenage boys accessed the tracks shortly before 6pm close to Ruskin Park, Denmark Hill.

“Were you in the area at the time? Did you see anything? Call 0800 40 50 40 or text 61016 – quoting 515 of 14 August – if you have any information which could help us.”
