TfL’s £87million bid for Government cash could see second Surrey Quays station entrance

An £87m bid for Government cash could see Surrey Quays station get a second entrance, a new station on Surrey Canal Road near the Den and “additional facilities” at Canada Water bus station.

Transport for London submitted the bid to the Housing Infrastructure Fund on December 3, which it says would support 14,000 new homes by 2031.

The bid also includes funding to increase the number of trains on the East London line to twenty an hour.

The additional facilities at Canada Water bus station would see a new route to serve the 3,500 home Convoys Wharf mixed-use development in nearby Deptford.

A decision is expected from central Government later this year.

The application was first revealed in a report given by Commissioner Mike Brown to the TfL board at the end of January.

A TfL spokesperson said: “These enhancements will support the major developments proposed at Canada Water, New Bermondsey and Convoys Wharf, delivering mixed-use development that supports key Mayoral objectives.”

Meanwhile design work for the Rotherhithe to Canary Wharf crossing is continuing, the report said.

It added: “The next steps involve further public consultation and engagement to develop detailed proposals before applying for a Transport and Works Act Order, currently planned for the end of 2019.”
