Rye Lane ‘will reopen tomorrow’

Rye Lane is now set to reopen tomorrow afternoon rather than this weekend, as gas company SGN finishes reinstating the road early.

Last week, SGN said it hoped the project would be finished by Sunday, June 9.

Its team now says Rye Lane should be open to traffic and cyclists  by Wednesday afternoon (June 5).

The road had been closed to all but pedestrians since January this year, while a gas mains upgrade took place.

Originally expected to last until January 2020, the work has now been completed months ahead of schedule.

Temporary traffic lights in place near Copeland Road were removed on Monday.
