Canada Water ‘among London’s most overcrowded stations’ says Google analysis

Canada Water station is among London’s most overcrowded stations according to a new analysis.

The station topped a list of the most crowded spots on the Jubilee Line, which itself is one of the most crowded transit routes in the capital, according to the Google Maps data.

The figures comes from reports of ‘crowdedness’ from Google Maps users from October 2018 to June 2019 during peak commuting hours.

North Greenwich and Canning Town were also named as some of the line’s busiest stops, while the Central Line and Waterloo & City were also named as being among the top three most crowded routes.

Concerns about overcrowding at Canada Water were raised by assembly member Florence Eshalomi earlier this year, who asked the Mayor about how he planned to address the issue.

““Many of my constituents are concerned about the daily overcrowding at Canada Water station and their safety when waiting for a train,” she asked the Mayor.

“What are you doing to address this?”

Mr Khan responded in an April letter: “Canada Water can get very busy, but staff are trained to carefully manage passenger flows at the station to ensure a safe travel environment and minimum inconvenience for customers.”

Some of the measures pointed to by Mr Khan to ease congestion included increased peak services along the Jubilee between West Hampstead and North Greenwich, and station upgrades on other stations to “relieve pressure” on the transport network.
