Commuters forced to avoid Bermondsey Tube Station after fire alert

Bermondsey Tube Station re-opened at approximately 9:45am after a fire alert this morning forced it to close.

The station closed at 8:45am with the fire brigade on scene at around 9:15am.

No fire was found after emergency services investigated the incident.

A TfL staff member said: “It was just a fire alert. This place is so high-tech that anything could set it off and as soon as it does the station closes.

“We can’t control it so the fire brigade have to come and investigate it.

“We should be proud of how high-tech the station is. It’s all about safety.”
