Bus crashes into Bermondsey Tube station

A bus crashed into the side of Bermondsey Tube station on Tuesday evening this week (August 17) – but luckily no one was injured, according to Transport for London (TfL).

The 47 bus was trying to get out of the way of an emergency services vehicle when it swerved onto the pavement and into the canopy that comes out from the station roof at around 6.30pm on Tuesday. Neither traffic on Jamaica Road nor services from the station were affected by the incident, according to the transport agency.

There was minor damage to both the bus, which is operated by Stagecoach, and the canopy.

A spokesperson for TfL said: “Thankfully there were no injuries when a route 47 bus clipped a canopy outside Bermondsey Tube station. This happened at low speed while manoeuvring out of the path of an emergency services vehicle.”

  1. Blocking an emergency vehicle !! As long as there is ample space for the couple of oh so important cyclists, thats the main thing. Southwark council couldnt care less about people safety, just push push push their own twisted green agenda at all costs that actually creates more pollution and far less safety for the people of the borough. Sadly these braindead schemes are fully supported by this newspaper
