Giant Sainsbury’s is coming to Elephant and Castle

A giant new Sainsbury’s supermarket is due to open in Elephant and Castle in December at the newly-built Elephant Road development.

A spokesperson for the company confirmed to the News that the new store will cover 9,000 sq ft over two floors, and employee 92 people.

The shop will border Elephant Road and New Kent Road in a parcel of land that was bought by Delancey in 2011. Above the shop in the rest of the Elephant Road development are 373 residential apartment and student accommodation for 450 people.

  1. Sadly it’s not a giant supermarket at all. Nor is it over 2 floors. Given all the hype, it’s a big disappointment.
