Man rushed to hospital after car collides with bike in Bermondsey

A man had to be taken to hospital after being knocked off his bike in a collision with a car this morning (Tuesday, January 11) in south Bermondsey.

The collision took place at about 9am on Surrey Canal Road. The cyclist, a man in his 30s, was taken by ambulance crews to a hospital in north London. His life is not in danger, police said.

The driver of the car stopped at the scene and was not arrested.

The scene of the collision was cordoned off on Tuesday afternoon, including the bike and a red Toyota, with two police officers in position.

A London Ambulance Service spokesperson said: “We were called at 9.01am today (11 January) to reports of a road traffic collision involving a car and a bicycle on Surrey Canal Road, SE14.

“We sent an ambulance crew, who treated a man at the scene and took him to a hospital.”

Police said the investigation is ongoing and anyone who witnessed the incident or has dashcam footage should call police on 101 or Tweet @MetCC quoting 1534/11JAN.

  1. Ah, I know the spot, accesses a small warehouse park. A couple close calls myself. A cyclist cannot see if there is a car driving out till 5-6 meters out. It’s very dangerous. Fortunately, the regulars there are very careful when backing out with someone at watch. But if it’s a customer, they are not used to it and will drive out blindly. Always scary at this spot if my kid is riding ahead and doesn’t hear when I shout at him to watch for cars.
