The victim of a fatal assault in Brixton Hill has been named as police continue to appeal for witnesses and information.
Police say the body found at 6.55am on Monday, July 12 in New Park Road is that of Mauricio Nascimento, aged 44.
Although he has not been formally identified, they believe the victim is the man also known as ‘Maurice’, from Croydon.
His next of kin have been informed and are being supported by specialist officers.
A post-mortem examination held at Greenwich Mortuary has given a provisional cause of death as multiple injuries.
Detective Chief Inspector Wayne Jolley, leading the investigation, said: “Myself and my team are keen to hear from anyone who can shed light on the circumstances surrounding Mauricio’s death.
“If you saw him at any time between the evening of Sunday, July 11 into the morning of Monday, July 12, or if you have information about what happened to him but have not yet spoken with police please do get in touch.”
Four men have been arrested on suspicion of his murder during the course of the investigation.
A 48-year-old arrested on Wednesday, July 14, has since been released with no further action.
A 45-year-old arrested two days later has been bailed to return in mid August, as has a 34-year-old arrested on Saturday, July 17. A 28-year-old was arrested last Thursday (July 29) on suspicion of murder but has been released on bail to return on a date in late August.
