Homeless put down roots in Camberwell

A ground-breaking tenant-run estate is helping homeless people put down roots by awarding them the gardening contract for their grounds.

The D’Eynsford Tenant Management Organisation, which recently took over the running of the Camberwell estate, celebrated the new partnership with homeless charity St Mungo’s Broadway, at a launch event on Monday.

The Putting Down Roots gardening project for people who have been affected by homelessness will now employ two people to tend the estate’s grounds.

Darren Kidson, of D’Eynsford TMO, said: “We are delighted to have awarded our grounds maintenance contract to Putting Down Roots (PDR).

“Our residents, volunteers and staff are looking forward to working with PDR to make a real difference to the estate and work together to make it an even better place to live.”

  1. Hello,
Transport for London has commissioned 00 (where I work) and Studio Weave to investigate the potential for integrating more temporary or light-touch public realm projects into London’s streetscape and wider public realm. We would love to use your wonderful photo here to explain what good maintenance looks like in practice .

The report will be in the public domain, and will be used to help inspire people across London to get involved with their streets. Is this ok with you, and if so, how would you like us to credit it?

If you have any questions my email is
