Hundreds attend recycling ‘Wonder Day’ in aid of Evelina

Over 600 people took part in a recycling ‘Wonder Day’ last weekend, raising hundreds of pounds for Evelina London Children’s Hospital.

The fundraising event was held at recycling giant Veolia’s Southwark plant, with visitors donating £252.52 for the charity. The day featured interactive exhibits to teach children about materials and recyclables, as well as wild bird displays, a bouncy castle and face painting.

The ‘junk orchestra’, which featured musical instruments made out of bits of recycled rubbish, proved especially popular amongst younger visitors, as did a robot made from recycling bins.

There was even the chance to win a trip for two to Paris. All money raised on the day went towards the News’ Evelina appeal, which is currently just over £7,000 short of its £100,000 target.

This Saturday, News MD Chris Mullany will attempt the second part of his latest fundraiser, cycling 180 miles from London to Paris in under 24 hours. Three weeks ago he successfully reached the summit of Mount Kilimanjaro. To sponsor him, please visit: http://uk.virginmoneygiving.com/team/Evelina_2013.

Alternatively, you can sponsor the other riders, who are Camberwell resident Lionel Healing, raising money for Save The Children: www.justgiving.com/lionel-healing/

and Raj Banerjee, raising money for the Trinity Hospice in Clapham:? www.justgiving.com/Raj-Banerjee?utm_id=26

For people who missed the Wonder Day, Veolia will be hosting some extra one-off tours of the facility this autumn. Please contact : uk.southwarkenquiries@veolia.com for further information.
